School is out for summer! How should we celebrate? With a Summer Luau Party Of Course!
My daughter just finished a challenging but fun school year and she was dying to have a party with her friends the first weekend school was out to celebrate their freedom. As soon as we decided on an outdoor luau theme, the forecast started to look bleak: 100% rain on party night!
No worries. We moved the party inside to our screened porch and with the help of some fun decorations from Oriental Trading Company, the luau happened despite the dire weather ahead. Here is what we did to get ready for a great back porch summer luau party, even in the rain!
Summer Luau Party Decorations
We started by covering the porch posts in giant Luau Tropical Cutouts that set the theme for the room and added bursts of color everywhere.
We also hung some garland from the Luau Hibiscus Decorating Kit from Oriental Trading Company to add something festive to the screen wall.
Summer Luau Party Stations
Luau Wear
Of course, we wanted party guests to be dressed for the occasion too! On arrival, everyone received a super fancy jumbo lei and rainbow flower crown over in our "Take a Lei" station.
Even the dog got in on the fun!
Luau Hair
Of course, if you know teenagers, getting yourself ready for the party is just as important as the decorations. We did a traditional Hawaiian flower hairstyle on my daughter that was easy to create with the addition of hibiscus flowers from the Luau Hibiscus Decorating Kit from Oriental Trading Company.
Start by parting the hair. Choose a front and side section of hair and then tightly twist the sectioned piece and secure it into place with a bobby pin. Next, fish a bobby pin through the hibiscus flower base. Finally, pin the flower to the hair over the first bobby pin, positioned near the ear.
Summer Luau Party Snack Table
Of course these girls needed snacks! My daughter decided on tropical colored mini cupcakes just to hold them over until we grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. Yes, at a luau party that celebrates summer you can eat dessert first!
Summer Luau Party Drinks
And then of course they needed drinks. My daughter was thrilled to make a punch that she could serve to her friends in these coconut cups. She made an easy punch of pineapple juice and sprite with chopped fruit.
Drinking from coconuts was a huge hit!
Even with the rain that rolled in that evening, the girls partied into the night and the summer luau party, totally decked out with decor from Oriental Trading Company, was a huge success!
We love to party! Check out some other ones we have planned!
