What's a better way to celebrate America's birthday than eating cake? These Red, White, and Blue Cake Pops are perfect for the occasion.
Our 4th of July is usually filled with parades, fireworks, and a get together down by the lake. That means I usually have to make a dish to pass. Around holidays I love a good fun and festive dish, something that takes a little more time and thought. That's why I decided to make these yummy cake pops. Here's a list of everything you'll need:
- Chocolate boxed cake mix (And ingredients to make them, usually eggs, oil, and water)
- 1 Can of chocolate frosting
- Blue candy melts
- Lollipop sticks
- Red, white, and blue fondant
- Tiny star cookie cutter
- Parchment paper
- Small bowl or coffee mug
- Spatula
- 9x13" baking pan
- Non-stick cooking spray
The first thing you'll want to do is spray your baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Then prepare your cake mix as directed on the box and pour your batter into your baking pan. Bake as directed and let your cake cool.
Scoop your cake out of the pan with a spoon and place into a large mixing bowl. Then mix in your can of chocolate frosting. Sometimes using your hands works best to evenly distribute the cake and frosting.
Form your cake and frosting mix into small ping pong sized balls and place onto a sheet of parchment paper. Then freeze for one hour.
Melt your blue chocolate melts in the microwave on 50% power for 4-5 minutes, stirring every 3 seconds until melted.
Dip the end of your lollipop stick into the melted blue chocolate, then into the bottom of a cake ball and let harden.
Now holding the lollipop stick, dip your cake ball into the blue melted chocolate and let it harden on your piece of parchment paper.
While your pops are hardening, roll out your fondant colors: Use your tiny star cookie cutter to cut out lots of white stars. Use small lids to cut out lots of red, white, and blue circles. Largest circle being white, medium circle being red, and smallest being blue.
Now dip the backs of your circles into the melted candy melts to use as glue. Stick your white one on first, then red on top, and the blue on top of that one. Then dip the back of your star into your melted chocolate and stick onto your last circle.
