When I asked my four year old what kind of birthday party he wanted to have, without hesitation he answered "police birthday." Now I have absolutely no idea why he made this request. My husband is a car guy, and drag races as a hobby. My daughter plays softball and my son plays soccer. So those were the requests I was assuming I'd get. Those and Paw Patrol, Blaze or Bob the Builder. But instead he said, police.
Immediately I began a google search for police birthday party ideas and realized there is one amazing source for everything police party related -- Oriental Trading. In fact, there was so much stuff, that I had to pick and choose exactly what I wanted to do with a group of four year olds!
Initially the plan was to have the birthday party outside. Now, my son is only 4 and he has never had a birthday party with friends, so this police party was a big deal. I let him invite four of his friends from preschool and I knew I needed fun but simple party ideas since their attention span isn't the greatest. The kids are more excited to be going into my son's room than actually paying attention to the decor. But my son was very excited about all of the things in the Oriental Trading that quickly arrived at our house!
We greeted each small guest at the door with their very own police badge and mustache, if desired. Some of my smaller guests were a little hesitant to wear a mustache! The adults also received a sticker badge which was a great way to make people wear name tags and get to know each other!
For me, plates and napkins are a very easy way to add some festive touches to a police birthday party. These plates are a very nice size and the napkins are the bigger lunch size napkins so there's no skimping! I served some fresh veggies and dip, cheese and crackers as well as chips and a few festive salads, mainly for the adults!
I opted not to use slippery table cloths or party streamers, but I decorated some areas of the house with Caution Tape. I also omitted the use of any balloons in case there was a latex allergy.
I made some blue velvet cupcakes for the kids and a nice peanut butter chocolate cupcake for the adults. Both were wrapped in these adorable cupcake wrappers and the kid's cupcakes had law enforcement paper picks in them.
Since this was the first four year old birthday party I've ever hosted with additional guests, I wasn't sure they could handle a game, but I ended up grabbing this Pin the Badge on the Police Officer game and it was a hit! I had one prize for the game, and that was a book. Everyone participated and we had tons of fun laughing at where some of the older kids put the badges.
For party favors, the kids each got a stuffed police dog! I opted for one stuffed animal vs a loot bag of trinkets. Some of my son's small friends have siblings and I was worried they might choke on small things. Everyone loved the dogs! We wrote names on the dog's tag with a sharpie so there was no mixing things up.
The adults went home with a blue favor box full of 4 fresh donuts I grabbed from the local bakery. I added a police badge sticker to the outside of the box and wrote the family's name on the box. There was lots of appreciation when I handed those over! Some people looked at me puzzled, and I assured them it's a police party so there needs to be donuts!
If you are looking for some police birthday party ideas, this is just a small sampling of what I found at Oriental Trading! You'll be sure to find everything you need for your next party!
