I'll show you how to make shaving cream using essential oils and a few simple ingredients. You'll have silky smooth legs in no time!
When I was younger, I religiously shaved my legs every other day in the winter and every single day in the summer. I would always apply by bath and body works lotion to my legs in the summer when I was wearing shorts and skirts on a daily basis. Now let's be honest. I'm lucky if I shave "all the way up" once a month! Now I do shave more in the summer, but when your leg hair is blonde, it's easy to miss with a razor and hard to see with the naked eye!
Recently I checked out this book at my local library. It had a handful of recipes I earmarked to try and this is one of them. I'll admit, I was very leery of making my own shaving cream. "How on earth could you replicate a can of shaving cream in your kitchen?" I thought to myself. The truth is, you can't. But you can make an even better shaving cream in your own kitchen.
How to Make Shaving Cream using Essential Oils
Ingredients:
- โ cup coconut oil
- โ cup cocoa butter (grate your cocoa butter with a knife until you have โ cup)
- ยผ cup jojoba oil
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 30 drops essential oil of your favorite essential oil
Directions:
- Place coconut oil, cocoa butter, jojoba oil and baking soda in a large microwave safe bowl. Stir well. Heat for 90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Select a large bowl so you can put your mixer in it to whip it.
- Stir in essential oils.
- Refrigerate until the mixture is a solid, about 2 hours.
- Remove your bowl from the fridge and let set for 15 minutes at room temperature.
- Whip with a hand mixer until fluffy.
- Place your shaving cream into a glass jar with a lid.
To Use:
Use your shaving cream in the shower just as you would normally use shaving cream. Wet your legs and grab a handful of shaving cream. Rub it onto your legs. The heat from your shower and body temperature will melt the oils and you'll be able to easily smooth the mixture onto your skin. Shave as usual.
Be very careful while in the shower, as the oils can make your shower or tub very slippery.
You may also notice as the temperatures change in your home, so does your shaving cream. In the summer months my shaving cream tends to melt a bit due to the increased temperature inside my home. In the winter months, the shaving cream hardens a bit more because it's colder. This does not affect the quality or results you will get from the shaving cream.
Yes, I've shaved my armpits with this shaving cream, my legs and my bikini line. A little bit goes a long way and I find that I can easily go over an area more than one time and NOT get razor burn. The oils place such a nice protective barrier on your skin, there's no need to reapply if you missed a spot.
After I use this product, there is really no need to add any type of moisturizer to my skin. My legs are silky and have a nice healthy sheen to them. And that's from the oils in the homemade shaving cream! This is my new go-to shaving product and I hope you try it and love it, too!
