Keep your child's screen time to a minimum with our FREE Screen Time Printable!
It is officially summer here in Michigan and I am already looking forward to lazy beach days and a less hectic schedule. Our kids are signed up for summer camp but it's local and only 2-3 hours a day in the mornings. That leaves us with all afternoon and evening to head to the beach and or just chill and relax at home.
My kids each have an iPad mini. Well, technically we all share them as a family and they know this. We have rules for the electronics throughout the year and summer time is no exception. Electronics are not allowed upstairs are anywhere where my husband and I cannot easily check to see what they are watching or playing. Electronics are also not allowed at the table during any meals, no exception. They get turned off and put away.
My kids are pretty good with following the rules but like all kids they do need friendly reminders and summer time often becomes a battle in the afternoons if it's what we call a 'home day.' That's when the "I'm boreddddddddddd' comments set in. Last summer I initiated some summer screen time rules. At first they complained, but I gave it a few days and they soon understood that certain chores and activities needed to be done prior to getting their electronics back.
This summer we also signed up for our local library's summer reading program. It was free and because the kids read anyway throughout the day I thought it would be fun to have some incentives provided through the library!
