Our easy Instant Pot Oatmeal will become part of your morning routine in no time!
How many of you are on the Instant Pot band wagon? I've had mine for a few years and love it! I go in spurts using it here and there just like my slow cooker and outdoor grill in the summer. But lately I've been on the instant pot band wagon for all sorts of things! This time it's instant pot oatmeal!
I love steel cut oats! But I don't love how long it takes to cook them. Thirty minutes to cook AFTER the water boils! This means we aren't having oatmeal during the week. We really only enjoy it on the weekend. Until the Instant Pot.
Instant Pot oatmeal takes 13 minutes to cook and the best part is that I can set it and walk away. That's my favorite part! When I open my Instant Pot lid, I have a delicious batch of perfectly cooked steel cut oats.
How to make Instant Pot Oatmeal
Did you know that steel cut oats are a good source of fiber and contain a significant amount of protein? In fact, steel cut oats are naturally gluten free and one of the healthiest grains you can eat! {source}
What I love about instant pot oatmeal is that I can make a batch and my entire family is happy. One child like it plain. One likes it topped with bananas, I prefer peaches, cream and walnuts and my husband likes strawberries and dollop of Greek yogurt! It's the perfect breakfast meal to make everyone happy!
I usually make a batch of oatmeal and it lasts us for 2 days. I store the left overs in the refrigerator (without the topping) and re-heat in the microwave the next morning. It's just as delicious as if it just came out of the Instant Pot. I love the variety of adding our favorite toppings or eating plain.
Instant Pot Oatmeal Topping Combinations
Some of my favorite instant pot oatmeal toppings are below! I love mixing things up depending on what I have on hand or even what mood I'm in.
- Fresh Strawberries and Half & Half or Greek Yogurt
- Sliced Bananas and Pecans
- Peach Pie Filling and Walnuts
- Fresh Strawberries, Sliced Bananas and Slivered Almonds
- Greek Yogurt and Fresh Blueberries
- A Dollop of Strawberry, Raspberry or Blackberry Jam stirred in
- A Dollop of Peanut Butter and Greek Yogurt
- Sliced Bananas, Fresh Blueberries and Coconut
- Apple Pie Filling and Chia Seeds
- Fresh Bananas and a Dollop of Nutella
- Apple Pie Filling, Raisins and Walnuts
- Fresh Raspberries and Half & Half
My instant pot oatmeal recipe is sweet. If you'd like something less sweet, add less brown sugar. Start with a tablespoon of brown sugar and taste the oatmeal. Add more brown sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until you have the desired sweetness.
