You won't be disappointed with these Gourmet Beer Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, perfect for that game day celebration!
There's several things people who live near Ann Arbor, Michigan are passionate about and beer and football are no exception. Roads close in this neck of the woods for college football game days. Tailgating starts at the crack of dawn (7am!) and game day specials can be found in every restaurant and grocery store during the season.
During the football playoff season, my local Kroger store has team apparel, color coordinated bakery items, Pepperidge Farm® Buns and a wide selection of beer including Warsteiner Premium German Pilsener. Combine the last two with cheese, onion and bacon (also found at Kroger) and you're on your way to an amazing gourmet beer bacon grilled cheese to keep you cheering strong the entire football game.
Purchase select products from Kroger, check out the game day site and you'll save on Pepperidge Farm® Buns and grab a $3 Mail In Rebate available on select Pilsener packaging. Grab your bacon, onion and cheese and let's get started!
How to make Beer Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Start with a small onion, chopped and pound of bacon. Slice the bacon in half so it's smaller for the sliders. Cook bacon, onion and ยฝ cup of Warsteiner Premium German Pilsener (or any other pilsner) in a fry pan until bacon is cooked to your liking -- I prefer it to be a bit crispy. Your onions will turn nice and dark brown and caramelize.
Grab your Pepperidge Farm® Bakery Classics Sweet & Soft Slider Buns and use a knife to slice them all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and set aside while your bacon cooks.
Once your bacon is ready, put a small amount of cheddar cheese onto the bottom bun. Top with 3 pieces of bacon, scoop a few onions on top of the bacon, and additional cheddar cheese. Place the top on the buns and repeat until all buns are full.
Melt butter and add garlic. Stir well and use a pastry brush to add butter and garlic to the top of the bun. this brings all of the flavors together! Toss into a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for 6-8 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve immediately with a nice cold glass of Warsteiner, a refreshing, clean tasting beer perfectly balanced with barley and malt that pairs very well with bacon and cheese.
These beer bacon grilled cheese sandwiches will go quick, so make sure you have some extra ingredients on hand to toss a second batch in the oven for that game day party!
