DIY Pottery Barn Inspired 3 Tiered Stand

This knockoff Pottery Barn Inspired 3 Tiered Stand will look gorgeous in your home!

I love everything from Pottery Barn. Unfortunately, I'm too budget conscious to purchase most things. But it's always fun to check out their catalog and peruse through their store in the mall. I've been eyeing these cute 3 tiered stands for a while now. They are so classic and can be used in almost any room! And, they are over $50! So when I stumbled upon a few irregular pans at the thrift store, I knew I had to figure out how to make one for myself.

The materials you will need:

3 metal cake pans - mine measured 7.5", 9" and 9.5"
1-¼" wood (poplar) dowel rod - have it cut in three lengths - 5", 4" and 3.5"
2" wood knob for top - I found at Hobby Lobby - just make sure the bottom measures 1-¼" so it matches your dowel rod
mini wood candle cups - ⅝"
paint in your favorite color - used Buttercream Luxe Craft Matte Finish Paint in Soft Smoke
paint brush
E6000 adhesive
ruler
pencil
400 grit sand paper

Now let's begin!

Wash and dry your pans with dish soap. One of my pans was pretty grungy. I didn't bother to scrub or remove it, I just washed it to remove oils and any other gunk that might prohibit my paint from sticking.
Use a paint brush to apply two coats of paint to all surfaces of the pans, knob, candle cups and dowel rods. Let dry.
Use your sand paper to distress the pans. Start gently with your sand paper. Wipe away dust when finished.
Use the adhesive to glue the candle cups to the bottom of your largest pan and set aside to dry.
Mark the center of each pan using a ruler and pencil. You'll need to mark all but the very bottom on both sides of the pan.
Use adhesive to glue the rods in between each pan and in the center mark you made on your pans. the 5" rod goes on the bottom, the 4" in the center and the 3.5" rod goes on the top with the knob. Now stand back and make sure your rods are lined up vertically, so it looks like there's a long rod going through each one of the pans.
Lastly, affix the knob on the top. Let set for the recommended 2-3 days and enjoy!

I'm going to be honest and tell you it's a little iffy if this tray will hold a ton of weight. It hasn't fallen apart yet, but each pan is basically balancing on a piece of wood just over an inch wide. I just choose to be careful with it - move it by grabbing the base and not the knob at the top - and so far it's fine. I checked out a metal 2 tier stand at the store the other day, and it, too, was wobbly.

Other than that, I'm in LOVE with it. I absolutely Love Love Love the distressing and color. What will you put in your 3 tiered stand?
