I am so lucky that I live in an area where squirrels and birds are around our yard year round. In summer, they are always clamoring around our patio, and this upcycled plastic bottle bird feeder is a perfect little project to help keep them happy and fed.
Upcycled Plastic Bottle Bird Feeder
While Michigan is a pretty mild state to live in, it can get hot in late June and July. Sparkling water is always on hand in our house to cool off, and Sparkling Ice flavored waters are one of our favorites.
When I was asked to share a bit about their current promotions, it was a natural fit with our family. These sugar-free flavored sparkling water drinks are perfect for me as a diabetic to add something other than ordinary water to my day. I like that they have vitamins and antioxidants and are so full of bright flavors. Even my teenage son loves these, especially the Sparkling Ice Cherry Limeade and Sparkling Ice Black Cherry flavors.
We hate throwing stuff away that can be reused. As I was sitting in my four seasons room watching the squirrels and birds at our feeders, I knew I wanted to make a fun addition to the deck. This idea was born.
How Can I Remove the Label From My Bottle?
Before you paint your bird feeder, you will need to remove the label. One of the best things about these bottles is the label is very lightly glued in place. That means that you only have to peel the edge and it will pull back easily.
If there happens to be any residual glue on the bottle, simply wipe off with soap and water or a glue remover product.
What Can I Use to Hold These Feeders Up?
We have a few bird feeder hooks on the hill next to our back deck. These are perfect for hanging any type of bird feeder, including this DIY one. Of course, you also need to use something on this particular project to hang it from.
I used scrap yarn I had on hand, but you can use string, twine, fishing line, or even ribbon. I recommend using something that will stand up under the weather outside if you hope to use this over and over again.
