If your looking to make your regular ol' shower routine a little more exciting, then you'll want to make these Rainbow Shower Jellies!
After finding out that Lush has shower jellies, I wanted to try to make some of my own. I love making DIY household and beauty products. Now they don't always turn out the way I think, but these turned out fantastic and they were super simple to make.
Whenever I go into bath and body stores, I'm always smelling around for the perfect body wash scent for me. I like to change it up a lot for different seasons. Vanilla in the winter, fruity scents in the summer. This is a perfect way to use up that last little bit of your shower gels.
To start you'll want to grab these products from around your house or a nearby store:
- Silicone heart shaped mold (or any small silicone mold will do the trick)
- 1 Packet of Knox Unflavored Gelatin
- ½ Cup of your favorite body wash
- 1 Cup cold water
- Small spray bottle of rubbing alcohol
- Small saucepan
- Soap colorant: Red, orange, yellow, green, and blue (you can use food coloring but do not use a lot, it will turn your body colors:)
- Small glass measuring cup
First, mix your unflavored gelatin into your cup of cold water (not warm or hot, it won't dissolve). Then pour your gelatin water into your small pot and place it on the stove top on medium heat until your gelatin is fully dissolved. Mix in your body wash. Carefully pour your liquid into your heart molds. Place a small amount of soap colorant onto the end of a toothpick and mix each individual heart with separate colors. Now just set your mold into your fridge for about 4 hours. Wait patiently, then carefully stretch the sides of your molds and push up on the bottom to pop them out.
Use your soap hearts just like you would a body wash, you can break them apart and put them in a loofa or just hold them in your hands. Be careful if might get slippery.
Things to remember:
*These are NOT a food, please keep out of reach of small children.
*The shower might get a little slippery while your using them.
*Store them in a marked (not food/don't eat) container in the fridge so they don't melt.

I didn't catch what the rubbing alcohol was for...
Erica
Hi Carolann-Just spray a small amount on the jellies once you pour them into the molds to prevent air bubbles forming on the surface.

I want to do these as party favors. Two questions...1) if I stack them in a metal tin will they stick together and 2) if I freeze them before packaging will they be able to sit through a 4 hour party with out melting
???? Please help
Erica
I've never made them in metal tins, if that's what you're asking. I wouldn't freeze them, just refrigerate and they will set like Jell-O jigglers do. As long as they aren't sitting in water I don't think they will melt.

I read on one site that if you add 1tablespoon vodka it will prevent mold and you don’t need to put in fridge. Just container with lid. I’ve had mine on counter near tub for almost 2weeks and they didn’t melt and aren’t sticky and no mold!

Very interesting! I have never heard that...might be worth a try!

Hi, I tried this and it doesn't sud up at all, what could I have possibly done wrong?
Katie Hale
They will not create a thick lather like most soaps you buy commercially. Since they don't include a lot of the body wash, it will not be as sudsy 🙂 It still works just as well for cleaning.
